Finding time for “me” while being a lone parent is practically impossible. We offer opportunities for space in the busy life. A chance to relax, take stock and reflect, or to do something creative or frivolous. We hold a number of day or weekend retreats throughout the year, and hope that each family will be able to be a part of at least one retreat a year.
This local Retreat Centre in Westbourne, is a hidden place of quiet. We either just meet for a quiet coffee, swim in the pool, or Emily Bradbury from Reconnect has lead us in a Felting Quiet Day, giving an opportunity to discover a latent or hidden creativity, while learning a new traditional craft and listening to our inner voice. In March 2015 we held an Art Retreat as part of the Bridging Communities Exploring Spirituality Through Arts. A theme of season enabled us to reflect on a deeper level at our experiences of life. A powerful time for many.

Longmead Community Farm
Based on Alix’s own time at Longmead Farm with her son, these retreats have been such a time of rest and restoration for a number of SMILE families.
April 2015 was the first art based retreat with Chris teaching mums in a Pottery Workshop in the art room upstairs in the newly refurbished barn – including using the pottery wheel. A contempory Dance Workshop for both parents and children led by Kristina Collins in the Dance Studio inspired and moved many hearts
